In the presentation, Mr. Adam reviewed the District Budget, Rate Order, and Tax Options and outlined a 5-Year Capital-Maintenance Projects Plan, As an acting liaison to a District consultant, each board member also brought information they had gathered to aid in the discussion.

The Association of Water Board Directors (AWBD) was formed early in the 1970s as an advocacy group for utility districts. The association’s mission is to promote unity and education among the various water districts in Texas. The annual AWBD conference gives their more than 900 members an opportunity to learn, connect, and discuss water resources improvements for future district operations.

Melissa’s Promise: Raising Funds for Syrian Refugees

Scott and his wife were moved by the work of Melissa Mitchell, humanitarian and founder of Walk With Me, an organization started during the height of the refugee crisis and that has since partnered with Tying Vines. Her persistent work feeding, healing, teaching, and sustaining refugees fleeing the war prompted the Stevens to make their own significant contribution to the Syrian refugee initiative. Having completed an Ironman 4 years previously, Scott chose the Your Journey Your Cause program with the Ironman Foundation to facilitate the fundraiser and prepared to complete the grueling event a second time. Inspired by the story of Melissa’s commitment to stick with a group of Syrian children, the Stevens named their fundraiser Melissa’s Promise with a heart to do the same.

Scott completed the 140.6-mile triathlon in 13 hours, 28 minutes and 14 seconds, raising over $27,000 for Tying Vines and beating his goal by more than $2,000. The Stevens continue to raise awareness for the Syrian refugees and the incredible humanitarian work of Tying Vines. Learn more about Tying Vines, their mission, and how you too could get involved.

The Rotary Club of Conroe

Connecting local business professionals with a passion for public service is the mission of the Rotary Club of Conroe. Bleyl enthusiastically supports these efforts and is pleased to announce that Travis Walker, P.E. is now a member of their Board, replacing Austin Love, P.E. Both remain Rotary Club members.

Upcoming Events

Travis is also on the Rotary Club committee for the “Spirits of Texas” fundraiser. This Halloween-themed annual event will be held October 23, and ticket sales will support local Rotary activities and Rotary International’s End Polio Now initiative. All monies raised to eradicate polio will be doubled by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

In addition, Austin is currently serving on the Rotary Committee for selecting and recognizing an outstanding Conroe police office, firefighter and Conroe Feeder School Teacher. We at Bleyl are proud of these community contributions by our staff.

More Local Fundraising

Bleyl Engineering staff recently participated in the Magnolia Education Foundation Clay Shoot “Aim High for Education” tournament and fundraiser to support MEF programs. Bleyl staff also participated in the New Danville Top Golf fundraiser. Held last month with the participation of the New Danville Board of Directors, New Danville is a community which serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We all gathered and prayed for healing and comfort for those affected by the hurricane.  Some of our employees volunteered their time and donated to several individuals, organizations, and schools in our immediate and surrounding communities.

Travis Walker, Austin Love, Dustin Wind, and Ryan Londeen helped demo flooded homes in various neighborhoods, as well as, donated money and items through their churches.

Kate Bleyl by cleaning homes that had been flooded and volunteering at the donation center warehouse in Conroe.

Michael Sullivan volunteered at his church helping to control water infiltrating their building and helping to dry out the child care facility.  He also repaired a damaged water heater for single mom with young children that were without hot water for two weeks after the hurricane.

Austen Beck spent his time in the Houston Heights area with the purchase and coordination of deliveries of food, clothing, and toiletries to George R Brown Convention center for flood victims.

Jennifer Steen organized a school supplies donation drive for a Houston area school classroom that lost everything during the hurricane.  She was able to collect enough school supplies to not only furnish one adopted classroom, but two.
